Cub Scouting activities are designed for Scouting families to get in on the fun, and include exploring the outdoors, building projects, making friends, and developing a lifelong love of learning. Cub Scouts earn patches related to their grades through achievements defined for their rank, and are assigned a Den with other scouts in the same grade. Scouts work on age appropriate activities related to our focus areas of Character and Leadership, Outdoors, Personal Fitness, Citizenship, Safety and Family & Reverence. Advancement refers to the progress a Cub Scout makes toward their completion of their rank.
Boys and Girls in grades K-5 are invited to join Pack 55, and are placed into rank specific Dens based on their grade
Lion Den - Kindergarten. The scouts and their families will be introduced to Scouting and will build foundation of character. Everything is done with an adult partner.
Tiger Den - 1st Grade. They will focus on learning basics about the outdoors, communication and health & safety. Everything is done with an adult partner.
Wolf Den - 2nd Grade. They will develop new skills like teamwork, how to help and be responsible at home and in their community, and learn about duty to our country.
Bear Den - 3rd Grade. This is the transition year where they start learning advanced scouting fundamentals while still having a lot of fun. They will learn how to safely use a knife and tools, and also more about camping and cooking outdoors.
Webelos Den - 4th Grade. This year they start to prepare for the transition to join a Troop. With emphasis on outdoor skills, leadership development, and teamwork, they will start to learn the structure and activities of a Troop. They will have the first opportunity to visit a Troop meeting and also camp overnight with them.
Arrow of Light Den - 5th Grade. This is the culmination of their Cub Scout journey and serves as a bridge to the next phase of scouting, joining a Troop. The Cub Scout uniform helps encourage a sense of belonging and personal neatness. It’s also how your Cub Scout will display their Cub Scouting achievements. All Scouts are encouraged to wear a “Class A” uniform to Pack and Den meetings and other formal Scouting activities. Scouts are responsible for purchasing their uniform. We recommend scouts get the uniform shirt and neckerchief with slide - all other accessories are optional and not required. Lions are not required to purchase a uniform and can wear our Pack T-shirt to all events.
Uniforms can be purchased locally at our Council's Scout Shop:
Garden State Council - 693 Rancocas Mt Holly Rd, Westampton, NJ 08060

For less formal events, scouts should wear their Pack T-shirt. These shirts are available for scouts and family members. Anyone interested in purchasing a shirt should contact their Den leader.
Cub Scout camping is a family-centric program and parents attendance with their scout is strongly encouraged, and may be required depend on the scout's age. Official Scouting America guidelines to safe scouting can be found here.
Scouts are generally responsible for bringing their own gear. A list of recommended items to pack can be found here. If a scout does not have an item, they should check with their Den Leader to see if there is another family that they can borrow from.
Each Spring we hold our Pinewood Derby. Car kits are handed out at our December Pack meeting. The season officially kicks off with a workshop that is held in January to give families access to advise, tools and space to craft their scout’s car. A few weeks later, we host a Practice Run day, where you can test your Pinewood Derby car. We will have the track assembled and leaders will be available for tips & tricks on a faster car. Finally, Race Day is held in March and scouts race against each other, with their cars reaching speeds of 200 mph! There is even a special division for family and parents! Awards are given for Best Car Design and Fastest Car at the Den Level as well as for the Overall Pack!
A blank car template can be downloaded here. Our flier can be found here, and our official rules here.
